The Yucatan State Fair began as a simple cattle market attracting farmers and labourers from across Yucatan to the green pastures of Xmatkuil Farm, four miles South of the state capital Merida. Now the event spans over 24 days and, this year, expects more than 2 million national and international visitors to enjoy over 1800 events. Though the Feria Yucatan still exhibits time-honoured horse and cattle rodeos, folkloric dance performances and local craft displays, its exciting modern events, such as a 4D film screening and a Robotic Zoo, play a big part in the fairs enduring popularity.
