Windsurfing and Kiteboarding are probably one of the cleanest sports in the world, using no engines and creating absolutely no pollution. The event is a must watch if you plan to come here in end of July. There are several flights to Fuerteventura from almost all the major airports of the world.

The Windsurf and Kiteboard World Cup spans a period of four days and is organized by Rene Egli under the sponsorship of the Fuerteventura municipality and aid from the Spanish Government. The very first event of this kind was held in the year 1986. The sporting event is simply spectacular and contains four days of pure adventure in the deep blue waters of Fuerteventura. The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. and goes on till about 6 p.m.

Each day there is a different competition held throughout the day followed by the prize distribution ceremony. There is an opening ceremony held to declare the start of the event after which the participants simply hit the water. The first day is for the Slalom, which can be called as the Formula 1 of windsurfing. It involves navigating a course at top speed. The course is lined with buoys to increase the difficulty level. Thrilling overtakes and high speeds are the highlights of this event.

The second day is dedicated to the Freestyle Grand Slam, featuring high speed maneuvering along with nerve wracking jumps. The competition is held as a knock out system. On the third day Freestyle Grand Slam is held for kiteboarding, with jumps reaching to a height of 15 meters going up to 70 meters. The event ends with Course Racing Grand Slam on the fourth day.

Additionally, the kiteboarders are equipped tiny sensor boxes to measure the physical strains that the athletes undergo while manoeuvring the jumps. Such telemetric data was used for the first time in 2010.

Whether you are into adventure sports or not, the world cup will definitely get you biting your nails, from start to finish. Well, if the excitement gets you tired, the event organizers also hold a party at the end of the day, having some delicious cuisine and music for you to enjoy.
