Chinese Lantern Festival in Mallorca

When it comes to putting on a show, the Spanish can always be counted on. To say otherwise is to understate the fact that they like all forms of entertainment. You can expect an extraordinary performance with an oriental flavour when Mallorca celebrates the Chinese Lantern festival. With so many festivals happening in the month of August, this traditional Chinese festival, also known as La Fiesta de les Llanternes, is one spectacular and unique celebration that every family and the Chinese communities in Mallorca look forward to. This colourful festival has also been a source of attraction to thousands of tourists on holiday in Mallorca. You can still be a part of this festival which takes place on the 24th of August, if you start the booking of your flights to Mallorca now.
In preparation for the festival, a lot of parents decorate some lanterns which are carved from melons for their children. But you need not worry if you haven't got any idea how to make these lanterns. There are other alternatives like paper or silk lanterns which you can get at a price next to nothing from Chinese supermarkets or party shops. These lanterns come in different shapes - there are hand-held box or flower shapes, dragon shapes, giant shapes, popular cartoon characters and others, depending on your choice.
On the day of the festival, the streets are decorated with a lot of colourfully decorated lanterns. But the main attraction of the festival begins later in the afternoon when the streets are brightened up in colourful procession of children with their candle-lit lanterns, singing traditional Mallorcan songs. For a tourist, this is not a part to miss. But for most kids, this parade will be an unforgettable holiday experience. There are other activities like games and competition which also adds to the fun of the festival.
Most festivals in Spain are never complete without some music, dances, fireworks and some food. It is the same with the Chinese Lantern Festival. Expect to find varieties of cuisines served from different food vendors during the festivals. Whether you are a pork or vegetable lover, you will be having a feast with different specialties containing these treats. You can enjoy some of these delicious meals with some coffee, wine, beer or gaseosa, a very popualar lemonade in Mallorca.
