Cyprus During November

There is plenty of activity to interest the tourist visiting Cyprus at this time of year. The first thing travellers to Larnaca will notice will be the improved airport facilities that were opened to the public on 10th November. Phase One of the new developments were unveiled by the company who assumed control of the airport back in 2006.

Music is always a major feature of the cultural calendar in Cyprus. For lovers of modern music, two tribute bands were touring on the island during November. Brothers in Arms are a Dire Straits tribute band who played various concerts including Paphos on 14th November and Lania on 20th November. Abba Dabba Do may be an unusual name, but we suspect there are enough Abba tribute bands to making picking a name quite difficult. They performed in Paphos on 15th and 21st November.

For classical music fans the Technocosmos Multicultural Center hosted an evening of music featuring piano, violin and guitar accompaniment to vocalist Sofia Silagaze. They performed pieces by Handel, Haydn and Chopin. The evening also featured jazz performances by the Polis and Friends Combo.

On 21st November sports fans had the chance to experience some world class fencing when a round of the 2009 Fencing Satellite World Cup was held at the University of Cyprus.

For youngsters, the American Hudson Vagabond Puppet company toured Cyprus during November with their Mammoth Follies show. The show could be seen on 25th November at the Larnaca Municipal Theater and the Markideio Theatre in Paphos on 30th November. The enormous puppets in the show included Willie Mammoth, a 13 foot tall T. Rex and a 27 foot long Apatosaurus.
