The main holiday season may be starting to wind down in some mainland European resorts, but the Canary Islands have a year-round season to enjoy.

During August and September the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura have plenty going on. The same holds for Lanzarote which puts on different musical, sporting, cultural and educational events in the run up to Autumn. Starting on 31st August the island hosted a 5 day educational course, introducing students to the subject of Volcanology in Atlantic Islands. In addition to academic sessions looking at geology and risk assessment, students were able to get field experience on an island that has plenty of volcanic history itself. Visits to the Timanfaya National Park, the Red mountain, the El Golfo mountain and the El Cuchillo region were arranged

.

El Cuchillo is also a region favoured by hang gilders and para gliders. Experts say it is a region for those with plenty of experience, for although the scenery is dramatic, beautiful and affords views of the whole island, the updrafts can be extreme. Mirador and Mala are other locations on the island where hang gliding and para gliding are also popular.

In Puerto del Carmen between 21st and 26th August was the Hollywood Motor Show, a motor stunt show featuring stuntman Peter Stey and his 3 sons, who used all kinds of vehicles to demonstrate amazing tricks, jumps, drifts and staged crashes. Peter worked in the film industry before starting his own company in 1996. The show at Puerto del Carmen followed on from the team's previous week of shows at Costa Teguise.
