Calling all film geeks: Cyprus will host the 10th edition of Cyprus Film Days between 20th and 29th of April 2012. The international festival will take place between in Limassol (RIALTO Theatre) and in Nicosia (Zena Palace Cinema).
One of the most exciting parts of the festival will be "Global Images", an international competition for filmmakers. Visitors will be able to watch nine feature-length films that have been nominated because they promote cinema as an art form as well as a tool for intercultural dialogue. The competition will be judged by the artistic committee: Adonis Florides (film director/writer), Dr. Costas Constandinides (Assistant Professor of Film Studies) and Constantinos Sarkas (Film Journalist). They will be looking for independent works that show the diversity of local cultures in a new light, making cultures more understandable for an international audience. Another exciting part of the festival is called Viewfinder - A Close-up of Contemporary International Cinema. This section will consist of nine feature-length films which have been distinguished at major international film festivals over the previous 12 months.
All films will be screened in their original language, but they will have subtitles in both Greek and English. There will also be special screenings, thematic sections, tributes to the work of distinguished filmmakers, workshops and master classes. Cyprus Film Days is co-organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the Rialto Theatre. As the official international film festival of Cyprus, it attracts people from all over the island and the rest of the world. Film lovers who intent to attend the festival in Nicosia will be glad to hear that this city has its own airport: Ercan International Airport. Film lovers who would like to combine their trip to the festival with a spot of beach and sea can either book flights to Paphos or to Larnaca, as Limassol is bang in the middle of the two international airports.
