Gran Canaria Much MoreThan Paradise

Reputed to have the world's best climate, Gran Canaria is a tourist destination with so much to offer, entertainment and marvellous beaches, antiquities and culture, outdoor sports and nature. More than just an island paradise, GranCanaria is an experience to savor.
Gran Canaria is an island of volcanic origin located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura and off the coast of Africa. The second most populated island in the Canary Islands after Tenerife, its geography is varied as Gran Canaria has long dunes of white sand, snow capped mountains, lush verdant valleys, and unusual rock formations. Its centre contains magnificent tropical forests which are worth investigating on a day trip excursion.
Gran Canaria's weather is fairly consistent year round with temperatures in winter averaging around a comfortable 20 degrees celcius during the day (except for the upper mountain regions which get quite cold) and about 26 degrees celcius in summer. Rainfall usually occurs during the winter months only, with July, August and September normally dry and very sunny. With a lack of humidity, tourists can expect great weather in summer as it's almost always sunny. It's also a mosquito-free zone and summer nights are cool and splendid.
The island has 32 Natural Protected Spaces, and there are plenty of parks and open spaces to enjoy here. You can drive around the island in a few hours on easily navigated roads so it's possible to explore much of the terrain in a relatively short time.
Gran Canaria is an island that regularly commemorates its religious and historical past through parades and festivals. When you visit Gran Canaria, you will likely see at least one event or festival going on in the towns and tourist resorts as there is some type of celebration happening every weekend of the year. The locals make the festivals a real party and tourists are encouraged to join in on the fun. Many festivals include parades in which the locals dress in unique and colourful costumes. Some festivals can last up to three weeks long here so be prepared for serious partying.
