Lanzarote is the place to be this summer

Lanzarote
Money may be tight for everyone at the moment, but Lanzarote is still drawing in the UK's tired and jaded holiday seekers looking for a family holiday with guaranteed sunshine. The perennially popular Spanish island once again one of this year's most popular destinations for sun worshippers, with flights to Lanzarote reportedly filling up fast.

As the start of the summer holidays signals a mass exodus to the beaches and resorts of Europe, the relatively stable Pound and a weaker Euro has meant that British holidaymakers are taking advantage of last minute deals to fly off to the sun.

A great family destination

Lanzarote is the easternmost of the autonomous Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, and lies approximately 125km off the coast of Africa. Thanks to its geographic location, this diverse and fascinating island enjoys wall to wall sunshine throughout much of the year, making it an ideal all-year destination.

Filled with great family attractions, unique environmental parks and a rich variety of flora and fauna, Lanzarote isn't just a 'party island', but has so much more to offer visitors of all ages. While the coastal resorts do cater for a younger crowd with superb bars, night clubs and restaurants, the island celebrates its diversity with a wide selection of other attractions that will appeal to both families and more mature travellers.

An island of contrasts

From the golden sandy beaches of the south to the mountain ranges of Famara in the north, Lanzarote is an island of contrasts. Its volcanic heritage can be seen in the lava fields that lead towards the Montanas del Fuego, while the Tunnel of Atlantis is the largest submerged volcano in the world. For nature lovers, Lanzarote's variety of wildlife and contrasting deserts, mountains and lush valleys present an endless variety of environments to explore and discover.

For families, Lanzarote is a perfect destination. The resorts are family-friendly, providing entertainment for children of all ages, as well as plenty of attractions, theme parks and events to keep even the most energetic kids busy. Water sports lovers are spoilt for choice, with superb scuba diving, surfing and water skiing facilities dotted around the island's coastline.

The result is an island packed with as much excitement or relaxation as you want, and with flights available all year round from most UK destinations, the sunshine of Lanzarote is just four hours away. While there's been much talk about 'staycations' and holidaying at home recently, Lanzarote is still one of our favourite destinations for a real family holiday.
