Mallorca Surf Action 2009

The beachfront area in Palma, Mallorca played host to an exciting surf event at the end of August.
Surfing is not something that typically takes pride of place off the beaches of Mallorca's capital city. The preferred locations for surfers and kite surfers are usually in other parts of the island. One particular bay on the outskirts of Alcudia is always a popular spot with kite surfers due to its reliable breezes and calm waters. Other beaches at Puerto Pollensa and Ca'n Pastilla are also favourites with watersports enthusiasts. But the event in Palma is about more than just competition and encompasses many varieties of several different sports. In fact the organisers included all "sliding" sports, so that means skating, skateboarding and BMX riding too. It was more of a beach culture event that brought in the crowds with its exhibitions, musical components and dance elements too.
Workshops also formed part of the programme, along with fashion shows and DJ music accompaniment. For two days, the fifth running of this event took over the Playa de Palma with special on-shore installations being constructed to showcase the events like skateboarding and BMX riding. On the water, windsurfing, kitesurfing and wakeboarding displays and competitions allowed the experts to show off their skills to the crowds on the beach. There was also dance competitions and the chance for youngsters to learn new sports with plenty of instructors on hand.
Excitement, sport, music, great weather and lots of fun was enjoyed by the thousands who were able to attend the event.
