Paphos A Cultural Delight

With year round sunshine and warm temperatures, a treasure trove of ancient landmarks and cultural sites, and the backdrop of coastal Cyprus, Paphos is a dazzling and exciting place to visit.
Paphos town -- on the south west coast of Cyprus -- is crammed with Ptolemaic tombs, Roman mosaics, and Byzantine icons. Built around a medieval port, Paphos has numerous hotel options, splendid tavernas and various entertainment venues.
South of Turkey, east of Syria and north of Egypt, Paphos is at a crossroads of ancient history and culture.
A Brief History: In Roman times, Paphos was the capital of Cyprus and it dates from 1400 BC. Paphos is filled with Greek mythology and legend has it that the Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, originated here. IN addition to mythological history, the city also has many historical ties with early Christianity.
Standing in the bay is Paphos Castle. Originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the picturesque harbour, Paphos Castle is an ancient landmark of the region. Since 1935 it has been declared an ancient monument.
