We've already mentioned some of the sporting events planned to take place on the Algarve during April, with a round of the World Superbike Championship being one of the most high profile. This event represents a great opportunity for British bike fans who may struggle to get tickets for the home round of this series. Book some time off work, secure some cheap flights with flythomascook.com and spend a long weekend enjoying the Portuguese round of the series in the warm sunshine of the Algarve.
For fans of the arts, there were more peaceful alternatives available, including a performance of "Carmen" by the Moldavian National Opera in Lagoa on 28th March and the colourful Flower Festival on 4th April in Sao Bras de Alportel, a suburb of Faro. Also in Faro music fans could enjoy the 12th Fartuna which took place on 20th March. This had nothing to do with distant fish, but was the name given to the festival of Student Music, which took place at Faro's Theatro das Figuras. Tickets were available for 8 Euros. Lagoa, another suburb of Faro, was the venue for the two week Comedy Festival which took place in the town's Municipal Auditorium and ran between 13th and 28th March. Easter saw numerous celebrations taking place all along the Algarve coast but the Triumphal Procession in the town of Tavira on Easter Sunday was one of the more popular.
Sporting excitement returns on the 16th April when the seas around Portimao host different types of jetskis and waterbikes for the 3rd International Endurance Championships.
