Festival MED takes places in the cosmopolitan town of Loule between 24th and 28th June 2009. This will be the sixth time the MED has been organised and it has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most highly-regarded World Music festivals. Seventeen acts have been confirmed for the festival this year including Stewart Copeland, former drummer from The Police, and Orquestra Buena Vista Social Club. Two main stages and three smaller stages will be home to the acts in a celebration of world music that also includes other attractions. Events supplementing the music include theatre and street entertainment, exhibitions of art together with gastronomy and handicrafts exhibitions.

Last year the festival was a complete sell-out with 25,000 people attending over the five days. Festival MED is organised by the Loul頍unicipal Council and has already received several awards during its short life. In 2008 the headline acts included Jimmy Cliff and several top Spanish DJs.

Organisers expect a big demand for tickets and accommodation, although the town is close to plenty of tourist hotels and apartments including several resort hotels in the area around Faro. Loule itself is an inland town nearbying the beaches at Vilamoura, Quarteira and Vale de Lobo.
