Amazing holiday memories to cherish in Rhodes

Rhodes is historically the oldest and largest tourist island of Greece. And up until today, Rhodes still sets that high standard when it comes to tourist attractions. Its airport, Diagoras International Airport, is one of the busiest in Greece and the number of flights to Rhodes is impressive.
Rhodes is the destination of the once famous Colossus of Rhodes which was considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World in ancient time. This almost 107 feet high bronze statue of the Greek god Helios was erected between 292 and 280 BC as a celebration of victory and freedom over the armies of Demetrius before it was finally destroyed by an earthquake around 226 BC. Yet, the site of its ruin is still a much visited place today.
Other striking and photogenic ancient ruins include Village of Lindos - this lovely village can be reached either by foot or donkey; Acropolis of Rhodes - this consists of the Temple of Apollos, stadium and a small theatre which dates back from the Hellenistic period; Acropolis of Lindos - this is an archaeological site with natural citadels and the home of the ancient Temple of Athena Lindia; Ancient Kamiros, this remains of a once rich and civilized city was built around the 7th century BC.
Historical sites to visit include the Palace of Grand Masters - built in the 14th century, this magnificent building offers a good sightseeing opportunities for tourist. The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is a museum in the Palace of Grand Masters with important collections of arts, amphora and archaeological findings from ancient times. The Church of the Panagia, with its stone bell tower and incredible paintings, provide an amazing sight for visitors.
