The Mediterranean resort of Antalya in Turkey claims to have grown its January tourist numbers by over 30 per cent in 2010 compared to the same month in 2009. This claim is based on the number of tourists arriving at Antalya airport during the month.

Art and Culture lovers are well catered for in Cyprus with plenty of events being promoted all over the island to showcase music, dance, theatre and other forms. Typically the major towns of Limassol and Nicosia are home to most of the promotions with venues like the Municipal Theatre, the Medieval Castle and the Athletics Stadium, all in Limassol, being ideally suited for different sized events. The big summer concert this year at the stadium in Limassol features American rock musician Alice Cooper who comes to the island as the last date on the first European leg of his "Theater Of Death" tour. Cooper then moves onto the States and Australia in August and September, before coming to the UK in November and December.

Club La Santa in Lanzarote is regarded by many as one of the best sports resorts in Europe. It certainly has plenty to offer in terms of facilities and the mild winter climate helps to attract thousands of sports people to the island throughout the year. The ancient ruins of Termessos located about 20 miles north west of Antalya are one of the must-see attractions in this part of Turkey. The town's history is thought to date back at least 3000 years, so don't expect to see too much in the way of standing structures but the large Amphitheatre, which could probably have seated between four and five thousand people, is largely intact and the Hadrian's Gate gives an indication of the pride its past residents had of the place. The location is thought to have been selected on the basis of a former Psidian Fortress which was built high in the hills at the foot of Rose Mountain and survived virtually every attack made on it.
