One of the best places to begin your tour is to know the history of the city by visiting the Antalya Archaeological Museum.

Archaeological Museum prides itself with the remains of Antalya region from ancient times. There are several monuments that were taken from the neighboring areas. There are various different sections to the Museum such as the Section of Nature History, Section of prehistory, Section of the small foundings, Hall of the gods, Section of Emperors, Hall of sarcophaguses, Hall of mosaics, The hall of icons, Section of Numismatics, Hall of Perge, The sections of Ethnography and Turkish Islamic monuments and The open air exhibition section of the museum.

All these sections have been organized in a very systematic fashion and some areas of these sections also have been lit up to provide adequate amount of light for the tourists to see the items properly. The Section of Nature History shows the fossil of the creatures from geological era.

The Section of prehistory shows the decorations pins, stone tools and bones belonging to the Palaeolitic and Mezzolithic age. It is quite fascinating to see these objects. They were all uncovered from the Karain Cave. There are also some objects belonging to the Bronze, Chalcolithic and Neolithic period.

The Section of the Small Foundings hosts some monuments that date back to the time between 13th and 14th century BC. Some of the sections also have monuments from the 4th century BC as well as the 6th century AD. It shows the cabinets taken out from the remains of some of the hidden sites. Statues of Apollon and Herakles made in Bronze are some of the highlights of this section. The statue of Priapos made in marble is also quite amazing to look at.

The section of the Hall of the gods has statues that are replicas carved in the Roman period. The monuments have been made in the Hellenistic, Arcaic and classical style. Most of them are the idols of gods and goddesses of many Hellen Roman Pantheons. One of them is Zeus, and some others include statues of Serapis and Isis. The latter two are the Egyptian Gods. Most of the statues were found in the ancient city of Perge.

The Section of Emperors has special significance as it makes way for the busts and statues of Roman emperors. A lot of them are from the 2nd century AD. Most of the monuments were uncovered in the ancient city of Perge.

The section of the Hall of sarcophaguses exhibits sarcophaguses that belong to 2nd century AD. Another interesting section is the Section of Numismatics which has exhibits of coins from the ancient periods till today.
