Aphrodite Gets Rave reviews near Paphos

Golf ball in the grass

So named after it's location near to the point where Aphrodite, the goddess of love allegedly emerged from the waves, Aphrodite Hills, the resort that includes the newest gold course in Cyprus, is receiving great reviews from all those who have played there.

The golf course forms the centre piece of the Five Star resort which also offers tennis facilities, a spa and property purchase opportunities. Its location near Paphos, in one of the most beautiful locations in Cyprus, is key to its success and the championship golf course takes full advantage of the landscape with some memorable holes that are receiving favourable remarks from players. The seventh hole is supposed to be the signature hole with its do or die challenge across a deep gorge. Anything too short and your ball will be lost forever. The ravine flanking the thirteenth is also dramatic, as is the third hole which becomes a challenging par 5 if you opt to try and drive the 220 yard wide ravine from the back tee.

While he was in Cyprus recently for a concert performance, James Blunt took the opportunity to sample the delights of the resort by staying in the Presidential Suite. His description of "wow" pleased the resort owners, although Blunt's short stay didn't allow him enough time to sample the golf course.

The 500 acre resort is located 10 miles to the east of Paphos and will celebrate the seventh anniversary of its opening later this year. (picture Terry Johnston)
