Bliss for Ballet Buffs in Bodrum

Ballet dancers

Ballet buffs should quickly book their flights to Bodrum, because the 8th Bodrum Ballet Festival is scheduled to take place in August this year. Like last year, the historical Castle of St. Peter will be the main venue.

The Bodrum Ballet Festival runs between 14th August and 1st September this year and features eight performances of several different ballets. The festival is being organised in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet. On Saturday 14th August, the Festival will kick off with Barbarossa, which is bound to be a fantastic show. On Tuesday 17th August, Campagnia Nazionale Di Raffaele Paganini will give a sexy show called From Tango to Sirtaki. Other performances include Othello by the Izmir State Opera and Ballet and Zorba the Greek by the Irek Mukhamedov Sofia Opera and Ballet. The Nuevo Ballet Espanol will give their show Sangre Flamenca - Flamenco Blood twice, on the 20th and the 21st of August. Korea's Univarsal Ballet will show the world what they can do with Ballet Steps From Bach to Present.

Standing alongside the town harbour, the Castle of St. Peter will be the perfect venue for the performances. In previous years, this romantic chateau has hosted the impressive State Opera and Ballet groups from Izmir, Antalya and Ankara, the Ballet Modern Dance Company, the Ballet National de Marseille and the Kafig Company dance group from France. If you happen to be in Bodrum during the second half of August, do visit at least one of the ballet performances - even if you're not normally a fan of ballet - because it's a unique opportunity to admire the spectacular historic Castle during the evening.
