The Bodrum Cup is a grand event held every year since 1989. It is organized usually in the third week every October. The event gives a chance to all the sailing enthusiasts to sail through Turkeys incredibly exciting south western waters which mark the intersection of the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea. To begin with, you will have to reach Bodrum in Turkey. There are several flights to Bodrum from different parts of the world. For instance, if you are located anywhere in the United States then you can fly via Turkish Airlines to directly reach Bodrum.

The moment you reach there you will see a horizon flowing with sails moving in a fleet of beautifully built wooden yachts, brilliantly sparkling Blue Ocean accompanied by their bows and dolphins leaping playfully beside them. With the added enthusiasm of the competition, all the sailors enjoy the festive mood as yachts anchor at the end of the day. After freshening up they get together to have some fun and share tall stories with everyone around. Evenings is full of fun and frolic, laughter and joy and a lot of partying.

The breathtaking views of the brilliant sun shining against the sails of Bodrums wooden yacht fleet is something that is never forgotten by the participants and the visitors who come to enjoy the beauty of the place. The event is open to all yachts that are privately owned. Both foreign and Turkish travelers are allowed on the competing boats to assist them have an up close view of the sailing action. You will find adults and children hooked on to their binoculars to view the far off yachts. Most of the competing sailors come back to a festive atmosphere as their family members and others wait for their arrival to hear all the adventures they may have gone through.

There are three Yacht categories for the participants, first one being wooden yacht designed in the most traditional manner. These are usually the high displacement sailing yachts made from all the conventional methods and materials. The second one is a cruiser or a racer design, again made from wood. These are comparatively lighter in displacement and are made specifically to race through the rough waters. The third one is not made of wood and it is mainly for people who are there to watch all the action. The Bodrum cup is being held from October 16th to 19th, this year. After the completion of the competition there are several activities lined up for participants as well as others such as music, cocktails, a concert and so on.
