Eastern Europe has long been shrouded in mystery, and this has only added to the magic of these often forgotten lands. If you fancy a holiday in a country that resembles a lost romantic fable, a heady mix of modern and old, book yourflights to Burgas in time for the wonderful Folklore Festival in August.
In Bulgaria, Burgas is known as the town of festivals. This year's Folklore Festival will feature ensembles from five continents. Besides the best known artists from Europe, you can enjoy exotic folklore groups from Senegal, Nigeria, India and Venezuela. Concerts will be held on the stage of the Summer Theatre of Burgas and on the open-air stages in the city and its region. There will be festive workshops and exhibitions that will display all sorts of traditional, local crafts. If you're in the mood for a bargain, there is a large and colourful bazaar for all those holiday present needs.
While the city has a vibrant feel, the shady tree lined streets, only minutes away from the centre, provide a lovely place to stroll in the hot summer days. Rich in fauna, trees and sculptures, the festival's open air theatre is next to a small zoo and a casino.
The city also boasts magnificent beaches with extremely clean sands and safe water. They are best rated as the families' favourite and if you are looking for a romantic getaway, this will be a glorious place to be. The Sunny Beach and the Golden Sands are the busiest and with an average temperature of 28 degrees celcius in summer, you can enjoy a lovely time with your family. There also are various activities available on the beach such as windsurfing or sailing, which will keep your children occupied while you have some time to yourself to relax and enjoy.
