One of the main attractions within Tenerife is camel riding. It's true to say that not everyone can say that they have ridden one of the worlds favorite humped animals. One of the best places to enjoy a camel ride is at Camel Park and this park is located about ten minutes from the resort of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. This popular park is located within rural surroundings and you can enjoy a camel ride as well has enjoy spending time with farm animals such as donkeys, ducks, hens, dogs and gray parrots to name a few. A lot of the visitors that enjoy camel riding also make use of the frequent flights to Tenerife.
Camel Park is home to a number of facilities that the tourists can use, which includes a souvenir shop and also a restaurant. It is possible to purchase a number of different things from the souvenir shop, which includes camel figures. The garden restaurant within the park serves a good selection of Canarian and Mediterranean foods.
Camel Park was actually the first breeding center within Tenerife for camels. This center was first started during 1988 and it started out with fifteen camels and by 1993 the park has sixty animals. During the early years of this park it was possible to get organized camel safaris that went up the Guaza Mountain and right up to the Palmar Cliffs.
The Canary Islands are only a few kilometers from the Sahara coast and this has meant that the places such as Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have developed some tourist attractions that focus on camel and the enjoyment of camel riding.
Tenerife is able to enjoy a desertic climate, which are well suited to camels and donkeys and they are actually the only animals that can live within this area without having to adapt.
