Dalaman is located towards western region of Turkey. It is full of natural setting all around, with hills and sea to provide fresh new look to the region every single day. Dalaman is still developing as a tourist spot but the hot springs and mud baths, rock tombs, Iztuzu beach, caunos ruins and Caretta turtles are some of the most fascinating places at Dalaman that any visitor or tourist cannot afford to miss. It is ideal to reach Dalaman by air as there are several flights to Dalaman from a number of domestic and international airports. The best time to reach Dalaman is early part of the spring season to the end of autumn.

Dalaman is ideal for people coming here for vacation with children. There are a number of beach sports to indulge in. Dalyan is a great place to visit within Dalaman as it is famous for its Caretta. This species called Caretta has gained some popularity over the years because the species has become rare and grows freely in this part of the country. Tourists are usually directed from the Koycegiz Lake to the ocean and to Iztuzu Beach, which has become a well known shelter for these turtles. The turtles in this region are incredible and no one is permitted to construct any structures here.

The Caretta turtle has been declared as a threatened species that also figures on the list of the Federal Fish and Wildlife Endangered Species. They are recognized mainly by their huge heads and unique red or brown shells. These turtle are known to arrive at the Iztuzu Beach to form nests from the month of May to September. The lower portion of their body is yellowish white in color and is 3 to 4 feet in length. A Caretta turtle matures by the age of 15 and is likely to weigh somewhere between 150 to 300 pounds.

As you wander around Daylan you will witness the adult turtles arriving at the lake in Dalyan Delta a couple of weeks prior to the time when the female turtles lay eggs. They feed themselves before indulging in any sexual activity. They usually are seen consuming the locally found blue crabs in Dalyan, tiny flora found in the sea, seashells, sea horses, sponges and algae. Female turtle is supposed to select a male. It is truly fascinating to witness this whole drama of their species trying to develop into a normal species rather than being threatened. Children and adults will love to see the whole process and will remember it for the rest of their lives.
