Classical Times on Tenerife

Tenerife capital city view from the distant

The events that are currently in full swing on Tenerife may not be everyone's cup of tea. The excitement and revelery of the annual carnival is the highlight of the year for many, but for others a selection of quieter more sedate events may be preferred.

The presence of the Auditoria de Tenerife in Santa Cruz ensures a steady stream of cultural events that brings an impressive list of performers to the island. On 26th February the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra performs a selection of compositions by Benjamin Britten and Dmitri Shostakovich. The concert starts 8:30pm with tickets cost between 15 and 25 Euros. The following evening the venue hosts a concert by Franco de Vita. Franco may not be that well known in the UK but this Venezuelan Latin musician has had top ten albums in various countries and won an MTV Music Video award. Having watched a few of his online videos you can expect a melodic evening of tuneful music featuring some very talented musicians. Tickets are not cheap at 33 to 44 Euros, but we suppose that reflects Franco's standing in the Spanish music scene.

At the beginning of March on the 6th and 7th one of the world's best Flamenco dancers, Maria Pages, performs the show Flamenco Republic in the Auditorio de Tenerife. This seven scene show will treat the audience to all the varied aspects of Flamenco dancing, performed by one of the most talented exponents of the art form.

On Friday 5th March the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra play another concert, this time featuring two works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Max Reger and another piece by Benjamin Britten.
