There is no place quite like Burgas, the Bulgarian seaside resort on the Black Sea Coast. It combines its roles as an industrial centre, major seaport, home to historical and cultural treasures and tourist centre elegantly, and manages to remain ideal for low-budget holidays at the same time.
With more than two hundred thousand inhabitants, it's also the fourth-largest city of Bulgaria, after Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. Burgas makes a clean and tidy impression, even when you visit the most industrious areas. The railway station and docks and are neat and the cranes are even painted in cheerful colours.
You won't have to pay more than 10 pounds for a fantastic meal in a restaurant, including drinks. Burgas is a delightful destination for party animals because it has a wide range of bars, night clubs and casinos. If you were to visit a different club every night for two weeks straight, you still wouldn't have seen all venues. It's more likely that you'll want to hang out with the same crowd every night, but that doesn't mean you should stick to the same club. When you're at the beach during the daytime, visit some of the seaside bars and restaurants to collect flyers announcing what parties will be going on in different clubs. In most discos, the European and American dance tunes and blue lights are very popular. If you prefer something a bit more memorable, keep an eye open for events that take place at Voodoo, an exotic club with a mysterious atmosphere in the centre of Chernomoretz, some 15 miles southeast of Burgas city. Their musical style ranges from pop-folk to house music.
The summer season on the Bulgarian Seaside is traditionally opened by a DJ with an international reputation. This year, the famous Hector Romero will make sure clubbers have a good time at Dance Club Mania (Sunny Beach) on the 7th of May. This May will be the last month that smokers can smoke in public places and workplaces in Bulgaria because on the 1st of June 2010, a ban on smoking will come into effect. So if you'd like to smoke in pubs, clubs and restaurants once more for nostalgia's sake, now is the time to book your flights to Burgas.
