Corfu has many gorgeous beaches including Agios Georgios (Saint George) North on the west coast. This beach has a large sweeping sandy cove and is perfect for kids to make sandcastles and play in the tame surf. Confusingly, there is also Agios Georgious South (Saint George's Bay South)which is also on the west coast. This more southerly beach has a long sandy dune and is located on the south west of the island, about 45 minutes from the airport. The bay is surrounded by olive groves and boasts a truly splendid sandy beach.

Chalikounas Beach is a hidden but very long sandy dune located on the West Coast of the island. With strong winds, Chalikounas is the perfect destination for wind surfers.

Kassiopi is a popular resort and much more of a mainstream holiday spot than elsewhere on the north-east coast, with lots of Brit-themed bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Five minutes' drive west of Kassiopi is Kalamaki, a 500-yard-long unspoilt stretch of fine sand. A few minutes' drive further west is the protected but small Agios Spiridon beach. Both beaches are sandy and perfect for paddling and swimming with youngsters. For somewhere a less boisterous and more traditional, Agios Gordios in the south west of Corfu is a gem of a resort. Built on a hill, the village is inviting and the views are stunning. The sandy beach here is great for kids who want to play in the sand and paddle in the shallow surf. Agios Gordios is filled with great restaurants but not much loud nightlife. It's great for couples or families who want a friendly place with a relaxed atmosphere and great food and beaches.

The more quiet, north-eastern corner of Corfu is a dramatic blend of twisted olive trees and lush cypresses, with resplendent views of the mountainous coast of Albania. This area of Corfu is home to enchanted coves and bays, all with lovely tavernas and family run eateries to enjoy.
