Corralejo, in the 17th century, was known mainly for pirates and the smuggling that carried on for several years. It is located in Fuerteventura. Flights to Fuerteventura are frequent from numerous European cities. Corralejo also has an airport, so you can further take a flight to Corralejo.

After the pirate period was over it developed as a fishing village. Tourism began in this town as late as 1967, when the first apartment resort named Hoplaco was constructed. During the 70s, another amazing destination was constructed and was named crimes of architecture. This was built in the dune area. The trend of building such structures gained momentum only in the 1980s. Corralejo is a great holiday destination second in popularity on the island of Fuerteventura.

The dune area also called El Jable was declared as a protected area from as early as 1982. The main road marked FV1 goes straight to Corralejo via the dune area. You can pan to walk across the dune and it can be truly enjoyable if there is a large group of enthusiastic people along. The distance may be around 4 to 5 km depending on the location of your accommodation.

Corralejo is located to the north of Fuerteventura and is around 45 km from the airport. It is actually a part of the municipality of La Oliva and is mainly popular among British tourists. This is proved further as you come across several English style bars and pubs.

Corralejo has the charm of a unique historic town centre. The closeness to the harbor and the small alleyways gives the town some kind of a special air in spite of its small size. The neighboring island of Los Lobos is, to a large extent, responsible for the increasing tourist rush every year.

The town has a certain buzz most of the time and its high street consists of several discos, shops, restaurants and bars. In the day, visitors are usually walking on the beach and taking a lazy stroll with their family or friends. On the harbor, you will be able to do some great fishing as it consists of several yachts and fishing boats. There are big ferries also for people who just want to have a good time at the sea sailing through the beautiful waters. Many people make use of this harbor to begin their journey towards Los Lobos or Lanzarote. There are several beach bays at Corralejo and the largest one stretches to about 200 m.
