Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is a great place to visit while you are in Sanford. This is the location where Major Francis L. Dade, during the beginning of the Second Seminole War, spoke in amazingly inspiring words to encourage his 107 tired soldiers standing in intolerable cold around the Pine forest. This event took place on Dec 28th, 1835 in the morning. In the next 8 hours, 3 out of 107 survived the battle that followed and marked the starting point of the Second Seminole War.

The state park does have great significance in peoples lives. Today it has been converted into a park that remembers the soldiers who gave their life for the nation and honors them by remembering them in the depths of their heart. That was precisely the aim of the park when it was established. It covers about 80 acres, half of which is covered with thick Pine forest. The park also features a live oak hammock and aims to preserve the battlefield of the Second Seminole War. It is a National Historic Landmark of the United States and was declared as such in April 1972.

The park is known for its ever increasing activities for children. Even adults will enjoy the nature trails and the playground. The nature trail at the park is 6.2 miles or 10 km in length. While you are on it you will come across a lot of animals such as woodpeckers, gopher tortoises, songbirds, indigo snakes and hawks. It is a fascinating sight to watch these unique animals in front of your eyes.

Children as well as adults will find it truly incredible. Picnicking here at the state park is great fun and after all the fun you can lie down and relax for a while. The park also has a well equipped recreation hall that can be used for other fun activities. You or the children cannot ever get bored in this park.
