Dalaman - Part 1

Located on the azure Aegean Sea, the Dalaman region of south west Turkey (also known as Turkey's Turquoise Coast) is a place of wonder and natural beauty that is truly unbeatable.
Dalaman is located in the Mugla province which is rich with historical and cultural places of interests such as the Dalyan mud baths and ancient Lycian tombs. Besides the beaches on the Turquoise Coast, there are also lakes, mountains, thermal baths and a multitude of sports and activities to enjoy in this stunningly beautiful area. Look for rafting, scuba diving, paragliding, horse riding, mountain biking. Summer and early autumn are the best times to take advantage of the beach and water sport activities in the region as temperatures get hot in July and August (about 30 - 32 C) but the sea breezes keep the humidity low. In September through October, day time temperatures are generally cooler and there are less crowds here than during the height of summer.
The main beach is Turtle Beach (Iztusu Beach) which is a sandbar on the Dalyan Delta and about 12 km from the charming village of Dalyan. It's 6 km long and more than 100 m wide and very scenic with dark sand and warm shallow waters. This is a protected beach area due to the rare loggerhead turtles who nest here. On the other side of the beach lies the Dalyan River with its twisting, reedy canals. The water is perfectly clean and the view of the hills covered with pine trees is lovely. The stretch of beach at the far end of Dalyan is rarely crowded and there are many open spaces to enjoy some peace and solitude. At the busier end of the beach where the boats come in, there are more people and sun loungers to be hired as well as a small cafe for refreshments.
The beach is easily accessible from the village of Dalyan, either by boat (approximately a 35 minute trip offering panoramic views of the Lycian rock tombs), or by the minibus (a 20 minute ride which leaves from Dalyan many times throughout the day. Many hotels in Dalyan offer daily free transportation to and from the beach.
Dalaman is in close proximity to the popular resorts of Marmaris and Fethiye and the lovely beaches of Olu Deniz and Calis, all easily reachable from by rental car or taxi.
