End Of Year Events On Cyprus

On Cyprus the event calendars for the resorts of Paphos and Larnaca are never quiet for long and looking back through the end of the year to January 2010 and beyond that seems to ring true. These holiday destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean always have plenty going on in terms of music concerts, theatre performances, local traditions and sporting events.

Both towns hosted a selection of Christmas events with the pick being Larnaca's Christmas Parade in the town centre on the 20th December at 5pm which followed a route through the main streets and squares including Akropolis Square, Lord Byron Street and Gladstone Street. Larnaca also held its annual Noel Christmas Concert at the Larnaca Municipal Theatre on the 23rd December.

In Paphos a concert by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra at the Markideion Theatre featured a selection of favourite moments from popular musicals, such as Cats, Chicago and West Side Story. The same concert was also performed in Nicosia on the 16th and 19th of December.

For club fans popular DJ Nic Fanciulli from the UK returned to Cyprus on 23rd December to make an appearance on the island that help him make his name.

During February and March the biggest carnival on Cyprus will be in Limassol with Paphos also holding a smaller event.

Other events on Cyprus early in 2010 include the annual Limassol marathon at the end of February. The international marathon was first run just three years ago and is already IAAF accredited meaning top athletes can compete safe in the knowledge their times will be officially recognised. In addition to the full marathon, there are three other races, a half marathon, a 10km race and a 2km fun race for children. There are still places available and if you signed up before the end of 2009, the entry fee is 30 euro. The big race will start at 9:30 from the Old Stadium in Limassol after an opening ceremony at 8:30am
