Ephesus is one of the greatest places of historical importance in Dalaman, Turkey. Ephesus has been linked to various myths and the Amazons since the 5th century B.C. Ephesus had come under siege from the Cimmerians during the 7th century BC but retained its freedom a little later. To come and visit Dalaman on your vacation to view the great museums and other historical buildings here, you will have to take flights to Dalaman. Dalaman has an airport where the flight lands you amidst picturesque mountains and sparkling waters of the adjoining Mediterranean Sea.

The site of Ephesus has acquired special importance because of the artistic construction of various structures. It is an epitome of patrimony and a great symbol of culture. The original Ephesus site from the ancient times was discovered at the Aegean coast. It was quite close to the shores of the sea which is situated 8 km from the first related archaeological site.

Odeion is a small theatre at Ephesus that is believed to be used as a bouleuterion or a council chamber. The theatre could accommodate 1400 spectators at the time. The remains of the original structure have been given coverings so as to preserve the remaining portions. The Theatre is believed to be built by Publius Vedius Antonius and FlaviaPapiana. They were well known members of the Ephesus family.

The prytaneion is another amazing place you cannot afford to miss. It was built during the 3rd century B.C. The structure acquired and completed its final design while the region was being governed by Emperor Augustus. The aim of the structure was to accommodate people in general for certain events such as banquets, public functions, receptions and so on. The sculpture noted in the prytaneion is symbolic a portrait of the Goddess of Victory or the Winged Nike. The portrait shows her holding a pleated crown in one hand.

The temple of Domitian as the name suggests was built in the memory of Domitian. It was constructed on a terrace that measured 50m x 100 m towards southern end of the Domitian Square. The temple can hardly be seen. The podium as the basis of the temple measured 24m x 34m. The structure must have been huge as its remains show 8 columns on one side and 13 columns on the other. Ephesus Library is a building made from excellent quality marble. Every part of the structure is worth visiting.
