Ephesus in Turkey

Ephesus is an ancient city within Turkey and it is located close to the Aegean Sea nowadays. This is probably one of the best cities within the Greek islands. The ruins that remain of this ancient city are probably one of the most popular visitor attractions and this is especially the case with people that are traveling as part of a Mediterranean Cruise. The site of this ancient city is a sacred site for Christians and this is due to the city being associated with a number of biblical figures, which includes St John the Evangelist, Virgin Mary an also St Paul. The site of the ancient city is popular with a vast array of people and a lot of these people make the most of the cheap regular flights to Turkey.

The findings that were discovered on this site date back to the native people known as Lelegs and Carians. These people have lived within the area since the beginning and the findings show that the city has been in existence since 2000 years B.C. It is true to say that this site is home to a vast amount of historical importance therefore if you really want to learn about this area then this is certainly one site that you should visit.

One of the places that should be visited within Ephesus is the St John's Church and also the Temple of Artemis. This temple was first built during the Archaic period, which is the eighth century B.C, this is classed as one of the Seven Wonders within the world. Another thing that is worth visiting is the house that is said to be where the Virgin Mary spent the last few years of her life and it is also reportedly where she passed away. Earthquakes destroyed this house and it was not uncovered until 1951 when a German nun, known as Catherine Emmerich, discovered it.
