Escape To Malta

St Joseph's Church, Vittoriosa, Malta

Sunny, picturesque Malta has been invaded by the Romans, Turks, Knights, and then the British. Now it's time for you to enjoy this sun drenched island country in the Mediterranean and the culture, food and hospitality of this very special slice of paradise.

Malta is made up of three islands with Malta itself the largest, Gozo second and the tiny island of Comino between its two larger neighbours. Malta is so compact that you can explore all three islands in the space of a short visit and there is so much to see and explore here.

In terms of climate Malta is warm and sunny. Summer in Malta can last up to six months, and winters are fairly mild although they can be a bit damp.

The island of Malta itself is known to be one of the friendliest islands in the Mediterranean. Malta is crammed with a myriad of both daytime activities and nighttime bars, clubs, and discos.

English is one of Malta's two official languages, and the charming capital, Valletta makes an excellent base to explore the rest of Malta. Built over 500 years ago, Valletta has recently been made a World Heritage Site signifying its cultural significance. The city itself is an animated, vibrant place with hundreds of shops, a huge daily market, museums, galleries, palaces and so many places of interest. Top sites would be St John's Cathedral, the Armoury, and Museum of Fine Arts.

Sliema is situated by the sea across from Valletta. Sliema used to be an old style colonial town but is now transformed into a chic and trendy place to shop or have a relaxing time at one of its many pavement cafes. You can sip an espresso while watching the beautiful people stroll by or view the cruise liners pulling in and out of the port.

Mdina, Malta's former capital in the centre of the island, is a car free walled city crammed with palaces, historical buildings and churches. Speaking of churches, Malta ispredominantly Roman Catholic so there is a huge amount of churches here all with their own distinctive art and architecture on view. The narrow streets of Mdina is one of the most popular places to visit in Malta because of its exquisite architecture, museums, and its impressive Cathedral. If you trek out to the end of the city limits, you can get a breathtaking view of the city itself.
