Famara Beach is located within Arrecife this is a luxurious eight kilometer long beach that is shaped like a horseshoe. This beach is popular with tourists that come to this area from all around the world using the regular flights to Arrecife. This beach is bordered by a mountain range that is six hundred meters in height and this mountain range is known as Risco de Famara. These mountains provide a spectacular backdrop for the beach. The scenery of this beach is spectacular and involves islets that are located just off the coast.

This area has been very popular with both locals and tourists for a number of years. During both the 1940s and the 1950s the people from Arrecife went to the small fishing villages during the summer months. Amongst these people were the wealthy family of the well known architect that is known as Cesar Manrique and his father actually built a house within the village.

As well as the luxurious beach there is a vast number of other attractions within Arrecife and these are very popular with tourists. This area is worth visiting if you want to experience the metropolitan aspects of Lanzarote. Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote therefore there is a good choice of things to see and do. The city of Arrecife is home to about half of the population that lives in the island and this is about forty five thousand people.

The city of Arrecife is home to some fabulous shopping, parks and beaches and there is also good nightlife within this area, therefore everything that tourists will be looking for. This city was once known as the Venice of the Atlantic, which was rather optimistic. This city does not offer very much in terms of classical architecture or waterways. Arrecife is a very picturesque area and it has a lot of historical heritage that is very interesting.
