Cyprus showcases top national and international short films 2011

There are now only four days to go till the sixth International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. The event takes place in the beautiful coastal city of Limassol, hometown of Michalis Kakoyiannis, a well loved Cypriot Director and the man who originally inspired the event. More than 60 films, 18 of them national entries, are to be judged over this week-long competition where the deserving winners stand to receive prizes worth more than 20,000 Euros.

Golden Orange Film and Art Festival

The 48th annual Golden Orange Film and Art Festival in October 2011 is a wonderful opportunity to experience the fusion of two unique cultures in a beautiful holiday setting, and even possibly spot the odd film star or two! Originally started as a series of concerts and plays at the historical Aspendos Theatre in the mid-1950s, the festival has now become one of Europe's premier film events and showcases cinema and movies from around the world. Although not as famous as Cannes, it is still regarded as an important opportunity for both new and established filmmakers to premiere their work to an appreciative audience. The event is growing in popularity every year, and is now firmly on the calendar of 'must-attend' events for both independent and major film producers.

Gran Canaria's 11th International Film Festival is held between the 12th and 20th March 2010. The event which has graced the island since the year 2000 claims not to be seeking to duplicate its more famous counterparts in places like Cannes. The organisers are aiming a whole different segment of the cinema market and are looking to support the creative sector of the independent film industry. Don't expect to find any of the mainstream films that grace the cinemas up and down the country every week, the productions on show at this festival will be more leftfield, more unusual, more boundary-breaking than normal. They even describe some of the entries as bizarre and marginal.
