Fuerteventura Carnivals in 2010

During the early part of the year, between January and April most of the towns, villages and cities on Fuerteventura put on some form of carnival celebration. The typical Fuerteventuran carnival includes a street parade, fair ground rides, plenty of food and drink and the endless beat of music from live bands. There are also Carnival Queens in many towns.
One of the three biggest carnivals was held in Puerto del Rosario with the main carnival day on the 23 February 2010. This carnival also featured a popular raft race along the sea.
The Corralejo Carnival is typically held between the 3rd to 14th March. The carnival's main parade is on Saturday evening of 13th March and the theme this year is La Selva - the jungle. A long procession of floats that arrive from across the island parade down the main street, before gathering at the open ground near to the bus station. Those involved in the parade are always a lively bunch and their enthusiasm quickly passes over to crowds lining the streets. It is always a great atmosphere, with entertainment for all the family (in the early evening of course), with several bars offering free tapas and drinks.
The carnival in Morro Jable also happens in early March, the first two weeks normally. Other places holding famous carnivals include Antigua, Betancuria in the north of the island, Costa Calma, La Lajita, home of the island's zoo, Pajara and the authentic town of Tuineje.
