Get the party started in Ibiza

Amnesia Club

If your idea of holiday heaven is total R and R, please look away now. Because right now, that's the last thing you'll get in Ibiza, with party season warming up for yet another year and a bevy of banging clubs opening their doors over the next few weekends.

Ibiza has long been a hedonistic place, where anything can happen and usually does. In fact, the history of the white island reads like a history of pleasure itself. It was here that the Carthaginians established a cult to Tanit, their goddess of sex, in around 650 BC, and here also that Roman centurions would come on leave, drawn by the very same cocktail of sun, sea and sex that lures holidaymakers to the island today!

In the sixties and seventies, Ibiza became a hippie paradise, a place of kaftans, love-ins and drop-outs. Over the following decades, it played host to plenty of hard-partying types from Pink Floyd to Frank Zappa. And today, a trip to the island is practically a rite of passage for dance music lovers from all over Europe.

Flythomascook runs regular flights to Ibiza from several airports in the UK, and you're still in time to make the legendary opening parties of clubs like Space on the 29th-30th May this year, DC-10 on the 31st May and Amnesia on the 12th June. By July, the party season is usually in full swing and won't stop for breath untill well into September.

If it all gets too much for you, there is an escape from the all-nighters and after-parties, though. Head inland and you'll see another, sleepier side to the island, full of olive and orange groves, roaming goats and tiny tranquil hamlets. And after a few heavy nights at the clubs of San Antonio, there's no better place to hide away and nurse your hangover.
