Paphos is one of the most visited and the most attractive cities on the west coast of Cyprus. It's boasting with big and famous hotels with their own beaches. And if you are looking for accommodations within a smaller budget, there are quite a number of affordable ones with good quality too.
With its own international airport, you get a lots of special offers on flights to Paphos every time. Typical for many coastal regions, the climate in Paphos is terrific. The average temperature in summer is around 21-30C/70-86F while that of winter is around 8-19C/46-66F.
Paphos has got numerous natural and unnatural attractions that meet every holidaymaker's dream. Paphos is famous for being the home of the Aphrodite Rock and the home of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, majority of which are blue flagged due to their excellent standards. The beaches are all sand and no shingles.
The most popular (and one of the blue flag winners) is the Coral beach, considering its proximity to the airport and its accessibility by bus or taxis. This is a very beautiful beach with a spectacular view, cooling sea breezes and a relaxed atmosphere. There are lots of adventurous water sporting activities to do on this beach ranging from wind surfing, parasailing and hiking, to boat trips.
Other lovely attractions of Paphos are its waterparks but the most visited is the Paphos Aphrodite waterpark. This is one of the biggest family rafting rides in all of Europe which is a real thrill for children and for adults too.
Historical sites in Paphos include the famous Tomb of the Kings, Paphos castle, The Paphos District Archaeological Museums, Medieval Fort, Mosaics of Paphos and some monasteries, museums and monuments.
There are a number of festivals and events that take place in Paphos throughout the year. There is the Limassol Carnival in February, Games and sports in March, Anthestiria flower festival in May, the Kataklysmos the in June, which is otherwise known as the Festival of the flood. There are lots of music concerts in July and August. There is the most popular Paphos Aphrodite festival in September which usually takes place in the castle. This involves a lot of opera and it's always advisable to book in advance.
You can get to sample all sorts of delicious dishes from various restaurants, towns or villages in Paphos. But the favourite local food amongst tourists is Meze which is similar to the Spanish tapas.
