Visitors to Gran Canaria during May and June will have the opportunity to see some of the world's best known operas performed on the island as part of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's 43rd Festival of Opera.
The performances started earlier this year in February and March with the operas Tristan and Isolde, written by Wagner, and La Sonnambula, written in 1831 by the Italian Vincenzo Bellini. Being performed on four dates in April was Puccini's famous opera Tosca. The Alfredo Kraus Festival is no stranger to this opera as it has been part of the opera festival's schedule on seven previous occasions and remains a favourite. The cast this year includes several performers from the Canaries as well as some international stars from mainland Europe.
May will see four performances of Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri on the 23rd, 26th, 27th and 30th of the month when Gran Canarian mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera will be the star performer.
Finally, in June, Verdi's opera I Masnadieri will have its premiere at the festival with performances taking place on the 13th, 15th, 17th and 19th of the month.
All the performances will be taking place at the Teatro Perez Galdos in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with tickets costing between 15 and 80 Euros. The venue is an impressive building and has seating for audiences of over five hundred people.
Flythomascook.com will resume flights to Gran Canaria as soon as the ash cloud clears.
