Puerto Mogan,Gran Canaria became known as "Little Venice" when the water channels running beneath buildings between the marina, harbour and beach were highlighted in an advertising campaign. The marina area of the resort was built on reclaimed land during the 1980's and was developed on a principal of low level, low density housing in order to maintain the original charm of this once small fishing village. The beach area of the town, Playa de Mogan, has also seen numerous improvements including the importation of clean white sand from the Sahara and new pedestrian areas behind the beach.

The resort said that occupancy levels reached 75% during February 09 when the typical average across all the Canary Islands was 60%. It reported that 29,000 visitors came to the town during February, with each person staying an average of 7.5 nights.

The marina area of the town gives it a very cosmopolitan feel. Over 200 yachts can be moored there and the surrounding pedestrian walkways are home to a great choice of cafes, bars and restaurants. Plants and flowers are planted on many of the streets here making it a very pleasant location to spend a quiet, relaxing holiday.
