Hillsborough River State Park opened during 1938 and it is one of the first state parks within Florida. The Hillsborough River State Park is situated in the northeastern corner. This park is very popular. This park is very popular with people that visit this and a lot of the tourists take advantage of the frequent flights to Sanford. The Hillsborough River that tends to be rather fast flowing divides this park and the river has some big rapids. This river is very popular for canoeing, kayaking and also fishing.
There are amenities in the park, which includes a cafe and some toilets. The cafe within the park is open from nine in the morning to five in the evening and it is open seven days per week. It is also possible to hire bikes ad canoes within the park however anything hired has to be returned on the same day. This park is also great for hikers as there are seven different trials that people can follow. The seven different trails are known as Rapids, Wetlands Restoration, Baynard and also a part of the Florida trail. All of these trails are suitable for cyclists and hikers.
This park also offers full facilities for people that wish to camp in the park. During peak season this park tends to be very busy. A lot of the park is occupied with live oak. Some parts of the park tend to be a bit swampy however a lot of the forest that surrounds the river is actually elevated therefore it is very uncommon for the park to get flooded. The entrance of the park contains a lot of pine trees. This park has been modeled on Fort Foster, which was a park that was build during 1837. There are some historic artifacts on display within the park.
