Shadwan Island is an attractive Island located in Hurghada popular for its marine life, and scuba diving. In fact, it is precisely because of the marine life that scuba divers show keen interest in the Red Sea. Several expeditions consisting of students of Marine biology, tourists, sailing enthusiasts, and casual cruisers are seen finding their part of the heaven here in Shadwan Island. There are some flights to Hurghada that can be taken from several parts of the world. Further, Shadwan Island can be reached by road as it is a couple of miles away from Hurghada.

There is a very engaging site up north near the north wall of Hurghada. Shadwans drift or reef seems to be the best part about the Island located on this dive site. Its depth ranges from as less as 6 meters to as much as 20 ft or sometimes even more deep. The visibility is excellent. Your trip will not be complete without this experience you are able to view from 30 meters to 100 feet. The fame of this site grew only after 1990. To the new visitors of the Island the site might seem quite and isolated. But it is only when you indulge in diving yourself that you realize how much there is to see and enjoy. Shdwan Island is considered to be the largest Island towards the southern end of Straights of Gubal.

The eastern side of the reef extends to several meters from the shore of the island. After such distance the height starts dropping and follows a rather downward slope before entering the sea. The northern end is excellent towards vertical wall. If you are lucky to be on a boat ride starting at the reef at Abu NuhⳠfurther to the northern end of the Shadwan Island, you might get to spot grey pilot whales. As you proceed further on the island, you might even witness a huge set of dolphins.

If you are receptive enough you will encounter several such creatures that can be clicked on your camera and preserved to show when you are back at home. If you travel further towards the northern end of the island, you will get to have a look at the brilliance and natural snippets of the Island. Somewhere around this location among the deep blue water some distance away from the shore you, will find an interesting feature where a significant flow of water can be felt coming from the south of the island to the north. The original flow of water is from north to south. Few people are aware of the opposite currents flowing in some parts.
