Ibiza Still Club Capital

Other European clubbing locations may be on the rise or the fall but Ibiza still heads the pack, with the best clubs and the most impressive list of high profile DJ's this summer.

The phenomenon that is Ibiza is still a force to be reckoned with when it comes to summer clubbing. The Balearic island that first started to establish itself as a holiday location for clubs playing dance music almost 20 years ago has managed to continually re-invent itself and move with the times. The result is that no other European holiday resort can boast as many clubs with as many high profile DJ's.

Ibiza's success depends on a number of factors. Of course, as TV property programmes continually repeat: location, location, location. Ibiza is a wonderfully attractive island, with miles of sandy beaches blessed with fantastic weather during its long summer. The club scene itself relies on three main factors. The clubs (like Amnesia); the brands that host their club nights (like Cream) and of course the DJ's themselves.

Ibiza has eight recognised "superclubs" at the moment: Amnesia, Space, Eden, Pacha, DC-10, Privilege, Es Paradis and El Divino. The brands that host their parties in the clubs include Cream, Manumission, Circo Loco, Hed Kandi, Cocoon and Judgement Sundays. When it comes to DJ's there is always a selection of well-known, long established names like Judge Jules, Sasha and Paul Oakenfold, combined with a healthy mix of new and upcoming DJ's like Spencer Parker and Alvin Myers.

Free buses are available to transport clubbers to the various venues and entry prices tend to vary between 50 and 60 Euros for the main nights, around half that for mid-week dates and even free on a very quiet night. Don't expect drinks to be cheap though, so make sure you go there for the music and the atmosphere, not because you are thirsty!
