International Jazz in Palma Mallorca

Expressions of an african american jazz musician.

Mallorca's three month long Jazz Voyeur Festival continues at the Conservatori venue in Palma with four interesting concerts during November.

Jazz fans are certainly spoilt when they visit the island of Mallorca. More than any other holiday destination, the combination of jazz clubs and different jazz festivals around the island ensure that, for most of the year, there is always something interesting going on.

The first of the concerts in November features the talented Japanese keyboard player Hiromi, who will play with the accompaniment of the band Sonicbloom. When she first started learning the piano aged six, Hiromi Uehara says her teacher then inspired her with her high energy and emotion. Public performances followed when she just 12 years old and she left Japan to play with Czech Philharmonic Orchestra aged just 14. She still enjoys classical piano, but now prefers not to label her style, although jazz does feature regularly. After a month long tour of North America during October, she travels to Mallorca to start a short, five date tour of Europe, then returns to Japan for 20 further performances before the end of the year.

The following evening on the 8th November Diana Schuur, a American jazz pianist and singer, graces the Festival with her unique style. Schuur was blinded at birth but has been playing and writing professionally since she was sixteen. She has had numerous top selling albums and has received two Grammy awards for her work. Tickets for both of these special performances are priced at 35 Euros.
