International Lanzarote Duathlon is a race conducted at Club La Santa that includes a long run followed by biking and then concluding in a short run. The event is meant for everyone to participate. You can reach Lanzarote for the Duathlon by boarding flights from wherever you are. There are major airlines from Belfast, London, Birmingham and many other places, with several flights to Lanzarote that you can take.
Everyone does take part with lot of enthusiasm and there are several participants at different levels. The 5 km run is a course containing 2 loops beginning at the Stadium of Club La Santa where the participants run a quarter of a lap and then proceed left to the lagoon. For concluding the run they get back to the stadium and then go around the same route repeatedly to complete the distance of 5 km.
The bike course extends to 20 km. The bike course contains a single loop beginning and concluding at Club La Santa. Just as the bikers leave the stadium they take a right turn and at a roundabout, head left where they come across the Caleta de Caballo. They proceed further to reach Soo, Famara and the get back to Club La Santa. The final 2.5 km run has a course similar to the first run only covering half the distance. ChampionChip is its official system to keep track of the timings system. The organizers have a mandatory yellow chip that notes the timing for everyone participating in the Duathlon.
There are 6 trophies that are given to the winners of the three events. Two trophies each are given to the winners of the 5 km run, the bike race and for the final 2.5 km run. One is for the male winner and the second is for the female winner. Similarly, two trophies are given to the first runners up and second runners up of all the three races. Trophies are also given to the best resident or citizen of Lanzarote in both female and male categories.
The audience has witnessed the World Champion, Joeri Vansteelant take part in recent events. For the local people it is great to see world renowned sportspersons enthusiastically taking part in the grand event. Several recreational participants as well as professionals take part in the event. The excited audience constantly cheers the participants during the Duathlon. While bilking the steep slope and going uphill turns out to be the most challenging part of the Duathlon.
The police are usually placed at the significant locations throughout the race. The event supported by the local police, medical services, race marshalls, security guards and even volunteers who provide the participants fruit and drinks.
