Lanzarote is a popular place among tourists and is known worldwide for its natural rock formations created due to ongoing volcanic eruptions. Apart from this, the place boasts of great beaches and beach villas and resorts. Flights to Lanzarote are quite regular and can be booked in advance.
Lanzarote Aquarium is known to be the largest aquarium among various Canary Islands. It consists of over a million liters of water. The aquarium has 33 different aquariums which accommodate several different species of fishes and other marine life. Canarys most popular species include bucks, moray eels, golden or bream, tropical species floating around in beautiful bright colors along with varied morphology. You will come across anemones, clown fishes, fire dragons, hermit crabs, globe fish and many more. They all form part of the library of Lanzarote Aquarium.
It also consists of an underwater tunnel comprising of large sharks in great variety. The tunnel is located within the central tank consisting of about 400,000 gallons of water. There are 3 touch aquariums meant for both children and adults. This is an aquarium that allows touching of various species and learning more about them. The fishes here include starfish and sea cucumbers.
Apart from the fishes you will also bump into some beautiful corals. Even anemones here are really brightly colored and the colors include vibrant pink, yellow, purple and red. The Sea urchins here are also a great site waving their spines all over. There are fascinating sea cucumbers, red hermit crabs and amazing boxer shrimps accompanied by big scary claws. Even groupers can be seen in the tanks easily. There are bamboo sharks here and one tank having shark eggs attached to the glass.
While seeing the shark tunnel you will notice some black tipped sharks swimming across the tank. The view is pretty mesmerizing as you see them swim overhead from one tank to the other. The goal of this aquarium is to bring the marine life to a safe haven where not only these species are preserved but even visitors come and admire their presence.
During summers i.e. from July to August the aquarium remains open every day of the week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For other months of the year the timings are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For Christmas it is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. School trips are also entertained by the aquarium however it requires prior booking.
