Part of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote Island was one of the first islands to be occupied by human civilization. Being an island, sun sand and beaches are obvious attractions of the place and coupled with some interesting events throughout the year, it is an ideal location for a holiday. Flights to Lanzarote land at the Arrecife airport, approximately 10 km from Lanzarote. Apart from sightseeing, there are several activities that you can choose to attend during your holiday.
The Urban Festival is a unique concept that has become quite popular in several countries including the Lanzarote Island. The festival is organized every year to highlight the street culture of Lanzarote. Other than this, the event also looks to promote different art forms such as cinema, music, photography, fashion, sports and dance.
Usually organized in the month of August, the Urban Festival is an action packed event with workshops, exhibitions and concerts, and people coming from all over the world to participate. The event is a great platform for some new artists to showcase their talent. The festival is held at Recinto Ferial in Arrecife, located right at the seafront behind Cabildo building. The entire setup is installed for this event including skateboard half pipes, music arenas, graffiti sets, dance stages and everything else that helps highlight the urban culture.
Some of the workshops arranged during the three day event include Graffiti art, Percussion, Street Dancing, Finger Skating and Skateboarding. Photography and graffiti competitions also form part of the festival. Those interested in some adventure can take part in rock climbing workshops held during mornings and evenings throughout the festival.
Evenings are filled with some cool new age live performances by DJs, musicians and bands, both foreign and local. All play different songs from popular genres including swing, pop, blues, lounge, funk, flamenco and brit rock. The live music is sure to add that zing to your holiday, especially if you are here to relax after a long time at work.
Though a new concept, the Urban Festival is something that both locals and visitors look forward to every year, giving a great break from routine life. So, if you plan to be there in the month of August, you can definitely expect to have the time of your life.
