Larnaca Festival during July

July and August is the time when many towns in Cyprus hold their annuals cultural festivals.Paphos in the west of the island is currently hosting a festival of ancient Greek theatre with numerous performances of famous Greek plays being performed in the outdoor amphitheatre in the town. In Larnaca the festival is more varied but also includes performances of ancient Greek Theatre.
The location for the theatrical performances is the Pattichoin Municipal Amphitheatre of Larnaca which is located in the south of the town close to the great salt lake. It is the same amphitheatre where performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" and Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" were given earlier in July.
Another stunning venue for performances during the Larnaca Festival is the Old Aqueduct known locally as The Kamares which was constructed in 1745 using a method devised by the Romans. Here on 15th July an orchestral performance by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis will be performed by a concert orchestra and several invited singers including the popular Dimitris Mpasis. The concert is free.
One of the bigger events of the festival takes place on 22nd July when the Moscow City Ballet performs Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" at the Municipal Amphitheatre. Tickets for the ballet are priced at 25 Euros for adults and 10 Euros for children.
