The town of Larnanca in Cyprus is famous for all kinds of reasons. It has a large modern airport, is a popular destination for holidaymakers from all over Europe and also hosts a large Summer festival that features all kinds of music, dance and theatrical events. Many international performers are booked for this year's festivities.
In nearby Limassol veteran rock star Alice Cooper also performs a concert in July at the Athletic Centre. There was huge excitement last year when rumours circulated that Pink Floyd were to play a concert in Cyprus, but it was actually the band of Roger Waters that were considering venues and the concert never actually took place. Music fans on the island were however treated to big concerts by James Blunt in 2008 and by Bryan Adams in 2007.
If live popular music concerts are few and far between in Cyprus, world famous DJs come to the island on a regular basis to play the clubs in Ayai Napa. Big stars such as Judge Jules and Mauro Picotto have performed and this year sees the opening of new superclub "Babylon" which will feature regular "Ministry of Sound" nights.
To satisfy the preferences of the Cypriot community there are also many famous local performers as well as artists from Greek and Turkey that visit the island throughout the year and these concerts are also part of the cultural attraction of Cyprus.(picture Leonid Mamchenkov)
