The traditional dance festival of Larnaca is something to be cherished throughout life especially of you are a dance lover. The performances are so euphoric and full of enthusiasm that you will forget you belong to another place. It is a festival but has a competitive touch to it and groups from all over the continent participate in it.

The festival is put up with great amount of dedication by the Cultural Folk Club Nicosia with the support of the Municipality of Larnaca and is usually organized in the month of September. During the dance festival the club usually hosts a variety of vibrantly choreographed dances from Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenian, Croatia, Slovenia, Latvia, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania. They come prepared with their traditional dances and present it in the most fabulous manner. When you leave the place at the end of the festival, the memories of the dance festival will conjure up images of their performances for many days.

People take . flights to Larnaca, Cyprus to enjoy the yearly event, whichis accompanied by almost everyone dressed up in their authenticcostumes for the performances. The frenzy of the festival is quite contagious so dont be surprised if you yourself shake a leg to the exhilarating dances performed by different cultural groups.

On the first eve of the festival there are fireworks and music playing throughout the night. This is followed by various dances. If you are looking forward to the dances then be ready to watch some great Spanish Jota Aragonesa. The dance is done typically by couples with their hands held high over their heads playing castanets.

If you are looking forward to some traditional ones then you will be surprised how beautifully the Spanish performers take you to ancient Spain. You will also be amazed at the coordination of the dancers and the bright faces that they present the dances with. Spanish dances include Sardana, Zambra, Bolero and Flamenco. Flamenco is a wonderful Spanish dance which is done with great enthusiasm. In olden times the dance was done by gypsies. The dance has become very popular internationally.

There are some enchanting Egyptian dance performances that transport you to another world. Various Egyptian dances are done by people from Egypt. They are not like the other peppy one and make you ecstatic. You might really get carried away with the sounds of their istruments. You may find Egyptian performers performing their Pharoahnic dances too.

The whole festival is extremely exhilarating, something to be remembered for an entire lifetime. Some visitors come back after a couple of years to see how the festival is progressing. The great atmosphere of celebration continues till the last day of the festival as you wish that it should never end. At times the festival is also accompanied by a procession of all the artists wearing their traditional costumes swinging to live music.
