Mallorca Festival of Music

The Mallorca Festival of Music has now concluded, its two final concerts were held in October and November.
Autumn is always a pleasant time to be on the island of Mallorca and there are still plenty of holidaymakers enjoying the quieter resorts that still benefit from some beautiful weather. Average daytime temperatures in Palma can be up to ten degrees higher than London during October, making it a favourite destination and an affordable one too with flights very reasonably priced at this time of year. In October flights to Palma were available for a low as 32 pounds.
The first of the festival concerts was a performance by the Munich Blechreiz Brass Ensemble which took place at the Basilica de Sant Francesc on 24th October at 8:30pm. The final festival concert was held at the impressive Cathedrale La Seu on Palma's seafront on Sunday 8th November. This concert was a much grander affair and featured 140 different artists. Proceedings started at 5pm on Sunday 8th November, the tickets were priced at 35 Euros.
The 2009 festival has been the seventh version of this well organised event, with the quality of the performers improving each year and the number of concerts growing too. Musical director for every one of the festivals has been Japanese born Toyo Masanori Tanaka, who is also an actor, musician and opera director. The festival has also received the support of many famous names in classical music circles including Placido Domingo.
