Towards the end of August, Mallorca will be hosting several interesting festivals which are great if you want to make the most of your money and time during your holiday in Spain. In order to secure your summer holiday, it might be worth booking your flights to Mallorca around the dates of these festivals. What these festivals have in common, aside from having their roots embedded in religion and traditions, are entertaining dances and dainties which are way too tempting to resist.
On the 24th of August, Montuiri will be hosting Sant Bartomeu, a devil-dancing festival and one of the oldest festivals in Mallorca. This festival is a celebration of the patron saint and it involves people in fancy dresses, particularly in devil's costumes. There are also synchronized dancing shows performed by different groups of attired dancers with the support of drums and flutes. Visitors are treated to a lot of classical and traditional dancing which usually goes on until the wee small hours. The festival is packed with a lot of other entertainment in the form of shows where participants take part in horseback-riding stunts, acrobats and jousting.
Few days after the San Bartomeu festival is the Sant Agusti festival, which takes place on the 28th of August in Felanitz. This festival is popular amongst families as it offers fun and entertainment that's enjoyable for people of all ages. During the festival, you will get a chance to watch some horse-riding displays and match dancing around the streets of Felanitz with locals in Mallorcan costumes performing different medieval dancing. These dances are accompanied by bagpipes, flutes and drums. Children are also a huge part of this festival. They dress up in different costumes to participate in the festival and other various entertaining activities.
Sant Joan is on the 29th of August and it is celebrated throughout the villages in Mallorca. This festival features a lot of food, dancing, colourful fireworks and bonfires. The prominent use of drums and traditional musical instruments adds to the sensation of the festival. It's a festival where you can't help but be a participant as you wouldn't want to be left out on a fun day of clapping and dancing. You will find a huge marquee displaying large varieties of different cuisines from all over Spain such as tapas, paella, Pa amb oli (bread with olive oil), lechona asada and several other menus.
